The foundation behind the Dutch International Tango Week is also this year explicitly focusing on accessibility. With a special e-mail address, the festival wants, as in past years, to personally guide visitors who need extra support, so that as many people as possible can enjoy the Argentine tango music during the festival in Amersfoort.
Visitors who need support while attending the concerts can contact us at the e-mail address toegankelijkheid@dutchtangoweek.nl. Through this personal contact point, visitors can indicate what support they need to comfortably enjoy the festival. The organization then looks at where customization is possible.
The Dutch International Tangoweek organizes concerts at venues including the Square of Our Lady and the Aegten Chapel. Because each venue has different possibilities and limitations, the festival deliberately chooses personal contact instead of general standard texts about accessibility. “We believe that culture should be accessible to as many people as possible,” says Frank Perquin, business leader of the foundation. “As an organization, we are dependent on the venues we use, but that is precisely why we want to actively think along with visitors. No general doodads on a website, but personal contact and looking together at what someone needs to really enjoy the music.”
According to Perquin, that approach aligns with the festival’s broader ambition to be a place where everyone is welcome, not just people already familiar with Argentine tango. “We want to show that Argentine tango music is an art form that can touch a wide audience. Whether you are a lover of world music, classical music, jazz or just curious about new cultural experiences: everyone should feel welcome at our festival.” This is why for years the Dutch International Tango Week has focused emphatically on concert experience, artistic quality and reaching new audiences. “Argentine tango is all about emotion, meeting and connecting,” Perquin said. “This is precisely why we think it is important to remove barriers so that as many people as possible can experience this special music live.”
The Dutch International Tangoweek takes place during the Whitsun weekend in Amersfoort and presents an international concert program with musicians from home and abroad.
